From now until June 30, 2019, public and private companies can apply for the German Energy Agency's (dena) 2019 Energy Efficiency Award for their successful energy efficiency programs. Companies of all sizes and in all industries around the world can apply for free. Bonus of the prize is total 30,000 euros. The competition was strongly supported by the German Federal Minister of Economy and Energy Peter Altmaier.
The competition focused on the achievements of business and public companies in improving energy efficiency. Interested companies can participate in separate or joint competitions. The entries are divided into four areas:
Energy Transformation 2.0 – for projects that have a further positive impact on energy systems in addition to energy efficiency;
Energy efficiency: from intelligent to digital – for projects that use traditional energy efficiency measures and digital solutions;
Energy services and energy management – for projects managed through energy management or by ESCO – both companies and ESCOs can apply;
Energy efficiency solutions – can demonstrate how to improve energy efficiency, and the methods have been market proven. Unlike other categories, this category is awarded for entries and is not an implemented project.
The committee of experts evaluates all submitted energy efficiency projects based on uniform standards such as energy efficiency, climate protection relevance, economics, innovation and scalability. The German Energy Agency will announce the list of nominated projects in early October 2019.
The winners of the four categories will receive an on-site award at the German Energy Agency's Energy Transformation Conference in Berlin on November 25, 2019. Three companies nominated for the Public Awards category will present their energy efficiency improvement programs at the conference. The on-site participants will vote for the winning plan.
The German Energy Agency International Energy Efficiency Award was established in 2007. The award is sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWi).
